During the AAJ Annual Convention held in Baltimore, Maryland, LFF’s Chair, Ira Leesfield announced the re-endowment of the LEESFIELD/AAJ Law Student Scholarship through the year 2020.
In 1986, Life Member Ira Leesfield, Chair of the Leesfield Family Foundation, chaired the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Law Student Section, which grew to 67 chapters and thousands of law student members throughout the country. He created the law school lecture series “Classroom to Courtroom” which was part of a nationwide program to introduce law students to the civil justice system, and the value of representing deserving clients in receiving financial security for their losses.
Shortly thereafter, Leesfield endowed the Leesfield/AAJ Law Student Scholarship and has just recently expanded that endowment with a grant for the next six years (through 2020). More than 23 law students have received the Leesfield/AAJ Law Student Scholarship and, most recently, Brenda Kathurima from the University of Maryland. Complete scholarship information and application criteria can be found at https://leesfieldfamilyfoundation.org/scholarships-2/. “The introduction and inclusion of law students into the AAJ family has been a lifetime commitment,” says Leesfield, who now chairs the Stalwarts/Hall of Fame Committee after serving 24 years on the AAJ Board of Governors.
